Man Pays Off Lunch Debt for Children in His Community

Not all children have the means to eat properly during school. This was the situation in one school district in Juniper, Fla. Several students were refused a full lunch in the cafeteria because they owed money to the school district.

However, when Andrew Levy discovered that 400 kids in his community were in this position– he responded. He immediately wrote a check for the $944.34 tab.

“Food is something that you shouldn’t have to think about,” Levy said in an interview with WPEC TV News. “These children that were in debt were going to either not eat or they would get just cheese sandwiches and I thought that’s crazy. I thought you know something? If for a modest sum I could make that change, I’m gonna do it.”

He said the act will not stop there. Every quarter, Levy proposed starting a fundraising page that raises money so lunch debt “never accumulates so that children never have to worry about a hot meal and parents never have to worry about paying the bill.”

After posting his plea on social media to support community children, people are inquiring about how they can get involved. Now, funds are being raised!

How cool is this? One man, who doesn’t have children, took action and shaped many lives. These kids and their parents know someone cares about them. I don’t know about you, but this makes me want to take action immediately to encourage people.

Blessing others gets our minds off ourselves and can also invigorate us in the process! Proverbs 11:25: “The generous person will prosper, and whoever refreshes others will himself be refreshed.”

Levy’s act is a reminder to stop being a bench warmer and get into the game of helping others.

1 Peter 4:11 – “Whoever speaks, is to do so as one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever.”

We can all shout an hearty “Amen” to this and for all kind acts.
