President Donald Trump delivered remarks at the 2020 National Prayer Breakfast following his impeachment acquittal on Wednesday by the Senate. Trump was found not guilty of misuse of power on a 52–48 vote and found not guilty of obstruction of Congress on a 53–47 vote. One highlight during the breakfast was when Trump said (26:15 mark):
“I don’t like people who use their faith as justification for doing what they know is wrong. Nor do I like people who say ‘I pray for you’ when they know that that’s not so. So many people have been hurt and we can’t let that go on.”
The President was referring to Speaker of the House and Democrat, Nancy Pelosi, after she prayed for those persecuted for their faith in other countries. Pelosi, who spearheaded the impeachment, said in 2019 she prays for the President daily. Trump also reprimanded “dishonest and corrupt people” who “badly hurt our nation” — a reference made towards those accusing him of abuse of power in holding up aid in Ukraine.
